Networking is one of the most important skills you must learn in business. More money is made from your networks than any other marketing medium. To build your network you must learn key networking skills and become a Master Networker. Every Master Networker has ten key characteristics, if you do not have these ten key characteristics then you must adopt them immediately and live your life by them.
1. Always Be Positive Even In A Bad Situation
Regardless of how you feel, or the situation you are in you must always be positive. One of the sad things about this world is that nobody cares if you are down. Unfortunately it is a fact of life, so it is important that when you are networking you are at all times positive. Even if someone is stealing from you, you still must remain positive.
2. Always Be Sincere
The world seems to be made up of very rude people and it only seems to be getting worse, as more people adopt the rude characteristic. Being rude will never win you friends and will only alienate those around you. The Master Networker always has a key characteristic to always be sincere even in a difficult situation.
3. Be Prepared To Help Others
Always be prepared to help others regardless of who they are. If you remember that there are only 6 degrees of separation between each of us, you must be prepared to help others because you just never know who they know or you may be helping someone who will help you in the future.
4. Always Be Networking
Whenever you leave home, your mind should always be focused on networking. You just never know when a new opportunity might arise; it could be in the supermarket buying the weekly groceries or some one you sit next to on the plane on your way to your business meeting.
The Master Networker is always trying to build his own network and expand his Mastermind Group.
5. Work Your Network
In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill talks about building a Mastermind Group of Advisers. You network is apart of your Mastermind Group that will help you build the success you desire. Working your network involves, asking for referrals from your network, advice and also asking them to share their experiences.
6. Always Follow-up On Your Referrals
If someone suggests that you give someone a call or they give you an introduction ensure that you follow-up on your referrals. If someone has given you a referral, then they are handing you an opportunity and they are also putting their reputation on the line by giving you the referral. If you do not follow-up on that referral you may find that you lose out in the future.
7. Be Enthusiastic About Life
Business is a tough world and many people are easily downed by the pressures that it brings. One of the secrets of Master Networkers is that they are enthusiastic about life and further to that they love the challenges and excitement that business brings. Love life to the fullest and everyday you get up, find a reason to keep going on.
Think and Grow Rich teaches us that we must have a clear desire on what we want in life to succeed. At the very least, you should be enthusiastic every single day to be going after your desire and the fact that you are one step closer to achieving it.
8. Always Keep Your Word
One of the great sayings I have heard many business leaders, including Donald Trump say is, "It is not personal, it is just business". Many people believe that that saying gives you the right to do anything that you want to another person all in the name of business. This is further from the truth. If you say you are going to do something then you must keep your word. Some of the great deals on this planet are done without contracts because the people doing the deals are known to keep their word.
9. Be 100% Trustworthy
Trust is an important characteristic of a Master Networker. If your network cannot trust you then they are not going to introduce you to quality referrals or to allow you to join their Mastermind Group.
10. Always Thank People
The sweetest thing to hear is a Thank you from a grateful person and in business today it is one of the things you very rarely hear people say. Thanking people can come in a number of forms, from a simple verbal thank you to sending a simple note to thank the person. For example if you meet some one at a Local Chamber of Commerce Meeting, then as a Master Networker it is important that you send a note to thank them for their time at the meeting.
Networking is a major skill you must master if you want to achieve the ultimate success that Napoleon Hill talks about in his book Think and Grow Rich. The characteristics outlined in this article are mandatory for you to learn and live your life by. You cannot only adopt 1 or 2 of the characteristics to be successful, you must adopt immediately all ten characteristics.
To finish off, I want to take a moment to list the Top 10 Characteristics all Master Networkers must have:
1. Always Be Positive Even In A Bad Situation
2. Always Be Sincere
3. Be Prepared To Help Others
4. Always Be Networking
5. Work Your Network
6. Always Follow-up On Your Referrals
7. Be Enthusiastic About Life
8. Always Keep Your Word
9. Be 100% Trustworthy
10. Always Thank People

5 REASONS WHY I LOVE MLM
I have to tell you, after reading and educating myself about this industry, I am convinced that MLM (also called Network Marketing - NM) is one of the most sensible business models around. Why? Well, there are many reasons.
1. Is this one of those pyramid things?
First of all, let’s be clear about one thing, simply stated MLM is an efficient means of getting the most products to the most people with the least amount of effort. It’s a method of distribution that dates back to the 1940’s – so it has stood the test of time. It is not a “get rich quick” scheme or one of those “pyramid things.” In fact, if you examine the business structure of a traditional corporation, what do you see? A pyramid. You have your CEO at the top, then the President; beneath him the Vice-president, then middle management and finally the general employees.
What does your family tree look like? What is the structure of all governments? In a true pyramid scheme you are usually compensated for the number of people you recruit rather than for the movement of product. And usually there is no product involved in a pyramid scheme.
2. Who makes the money?
Some people think that it is just the people at the top that make all the money. While that may be true, ask yourself this question: Who always makes the most money in a corporation?
The opportunity to earn significant income is the same for everyone in MLM, and each person gets paid according to his or her effort. (Isn’t that refreshing?) If a person works hard at developing a solid organization of distributors and customers, they will be compensated for that. Those who don’t work as hard will make less money, but they will be paid on the same basis as everyone else in the company. Here’s a true-life example: I brought (or “sponsored”) my sister into the business so she is “under” me. Two months in a row recently, she received a larger compensation check than I did.
In a corporate situation, meeting objectives and staying within budget aren’t necessarily the only criteria for how one gets paid. There is also a subjective aspect to it. I like to call it “company politics.” What does your boss really think of you and your effort? Someone else gets to determine who get the extra bonus and why. My husband worked in corporate for 35 years, and I saw many times when his team got passed over for the extra bucks even though they met all their objectives. Somebody higher up decided it should go to someone else. In NM it is strictly objective.
3. Who can get involved in MLM?
Here is one of my favorite aspects of Multilevel Marketing: A person isn’t required to have any prescribed amount of education, be a certain age or of a certain ethnic background. Anyone who so desires can start their own business at any time.
I was at a regional conference once and heard a woman speak about her business. She did not have a college education, she was the wife of a farmer in the Midwest and raised several children...and had a very successful MLM business. I just loved that!
4. What will it cost me?
Another great aspect is that Network Marketing is the only entrepreneurial home business with literally no downside risk – especially when compared to a franchise or store front operation which take lots of money up front. A minimal invested gets you started in most network marketing companies.
5. MLM vs. a job
One of the unique features of MLM is something called “residual income” (also called passive, or recurring income). It is income that continues to be generated after the initial effort has been expended. In other words, you sign up a new distributor and show them how to set up their business. You do this once but continue to earn a commission on their effort. For every distributor you enroll the process is the same. Compare this to what most people focus on earning: linear income, which is "one-shot" compensation or payment in the form of a fee, wage, commission or salary.
Why do business people like Robert and Kim Kiyosaki, Warren Buffet, and Donald Trump tout MLM? Because they see the beauty of the model. Hear what President Clinton has to say.
So, that’s why I love MLM. What do you think?

Ignorance is bliss
I was really naive when I started my Shaklee business. I didn't know back then that MLM was a dirty word - at least to some. I just loved the products and the company and knew I wanted to tell people about them. Plus, I had been a stay-at-home mom (aka sahm) and my nest was suddenly empty. I knew I didn't want to go back to the corporate world where I would have to answer to someone else. After all, I had been my own boss (in a manner of speaking) for 21 years and had enjoyed the freedom of coming and going as I pleased. A 9 to 5 job didn't sound too exciting. Okay, so I had been using these products for awhile and really liked them. They had helped me overcome allergies and I stopped getting sinus infections. The friend who had sponsored me kept telling me that I should start my own distributorship, and I kept saying "no." But suddenly, that started looking like a great idea. So Health By Design was born. It was so easy...I just said I am going to do this. So anyway, back to this MLM stuff.
When I started talking to people about the products, often the response would be "I just want to use the stuff; I don't want to sell it." I really didn't know what that was all about until finally one day I asked a prospect why she had said that. Well, she had been involved with another company at one time and they just expected her to sell as well as use their products. I also would get the response, "No thanks, I don't want to lose all my friends and family." It was then that I started to understand that there were a lot of people walking around without a very clear understanding of what MLM really is. Did I even clearly understand what it was?
I certainly knew what it was not...It wasn't/isn't "one of those pyramid things." (They are illegal, by the way.)I decided right then and there that I had better educate myself about Multilevel Marketing....and thus my journey began.
